The art of calligraphy...

was introduced to me many years ago as I was earning a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art. I fell in love with calligraphy when the first stroke of the pen hit the paper. Since then I have pursued it wholeheartedly as the art form that it is.

Calligraphy has played an essential role throughout civilization. Scribes have heralded significant events throughout history with beautiful letters and passed down this art through generations, inspiring artists of today like myself.

As a calligrapher I have commemorated moments in family lives: weddings, births, graduation diplomas, keepsakes and more. I have had the privilege to work with clients to memorialize events that are special to them and find great joy in this.

I also enjoy finding meaningful sayings or quotes that inspire me. I love bringing to life these bits of wisdom and humor through letter arts, then offering them through my online store. This is my way of sharing the timeless and powerful expression that comes with a beautifully written word.

 The Griffinink 2024 Calendar

I should probably preface this posting with an acknowledgement that though I did create a 2023 calendar, due to life interruptions, I could not sell it on this site. The issue has since been resolved.

Now, on to The 2024 Griffinink Calendar (36th year)

Fairytales can come true.

If you're Young at Heart...

I've always loved the message in this song, sung by Frank Sinatra, in an old classic movie from the 40's. It seems fitting that, watching my granddaughter, Waverly grow, I'm inspired by her sheer joy at being a child. She is a sight to behold, ever curious, ever playful, ever tottering from wonder to wonder. It took a bit longer this year, due to aches and pains that come with chasing, and often wrangling a 17 month old, but it’s all worth the gift of being able to be her Grandma. She surprises me every day, giving me new reasons to remain Young at Heart. When I sit and read to her, I’m reminded of the fairytales I read to my own daughters, and I really understand what Hans Christian Anderson wrote, "Life itself is the most wonderful fairytale of all."

Each calendar will be hand personalized with black calligraphy in the banner at the top.

The first orders will go out on 12/13. They are $15 a piece, including tax. As always, shipping is free. At 11’ x 14”, the calendar can fit into a standard size I'll get right to work (or play) with a smile, remembering a quote by George Bernard Shaw, "We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing."
